Catalog Course Description
The physical and chemical properties and reactions of organic compounds such as saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, alcohols, phenols and carboxylic acids.
Course Learning Outcomes:
1. | Draw Lewis structures and resonance structures. |

2. | Write and interpret structural formulas. |
3. | Predict 3D structure of molecules using the VSEPR model and molecular orbital theory |
4. | Recognize major functional groups |
5. | Understand the correlation between properties of functional groups and intermolecular forces |
6. | Classify molecules as acids and bases |
7. | Show the mechanisms of basic organic reactions using curved arrow notation. |
8. | Name simple organic molecules according to the IUPAC law |
9. | Compare the relative energies of organic molecules using conformational analysis |
