Catalog Course Description
Basic theory of groups, rings and fields is covered. Fundamental concepts of Galois Theory are also given.
Course Learning Outcomes:
1. On successful completion of this course, students should be able to: Develop an understanding of the value of studying same and similar algebraic structures, which appear in different settings, as abstract structures,
2. Demonstrate knowledge of groups, rings, fields, their substructures, their quotient structure, and their mappings,
3. Demonstrate ability to understand and outline poofs of major theorems covered in this course,
4. Demonstrate ability to apply basic ideas of abstract algebra in computations and proofs,
5. Demonstrate ability to reason abstractly in exploring concepts covered in this course.
Course Objective
To provide students with a solid background in basic concepts of abstract algebra.
