Catalog Course Description
The shape and properties of surface. Friction. Boundary lubrication. Hydrodynamic lubrication. Elastohydrodynamic lubrication. Corrosion chemistry and protections.
Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: - define the fundamentals of Tribology; lubrication and wear - describe theory behind the lubrication - design for common hydrostatic and hydrodynamic bearings - identify common theories for friction and wear
Course Objective
To teach fundementals of Tribology, lubrication theory and applications; to introduce engineering surfaces, hertzian contact, friction and wear models
