Course Information

Catalog Course Description
Selected topics in linear control systems, typical nonlinear problems and phenomena, stability, Lyapunov theory, robustness, performance analysis, nonlinear control design.
Learning Outcomes:
1. After taking this course, a successful graduate student must be able to design various nonlinear controllers for systems that have nonlinear state models to achieve desired closed-loop performance; students should be able to: - analyze nonlinear phenomena (finite escape time, limit cycles, multiple equilibrium points, bifurcations, chaos etc.) - develop nonlinear state models from nonlinear differential equations - use Lyapunov theorems to check stability of nonlinear systems - use Lyapunov theory to design nonlinear controllers - design robust control methods (sliding mode control, integrator backstepping etc.) - design high gain observers
